A dense, highly-figured hardwood from Indonesia, Macassan Ebony has been long favoured by woodworkers for intricate, decorative pieces. It is rare to find suitably sized logs for guitar building, but we have watched and waited patiently for this timber to become available. Macassan Ebony delivers a lot of tonal presence and is clear and loud with a broad dynamic range. Similar to Rosewood in tone, when matched to Engelmann Spruce, Macassan Ebony gives crisp bass and lower mid notes; clear and brilliant highs; and a slightly scooped midrange.
