Fender 1969 Stratocaster, Natural, Second-Hand Overview
We’ve had the privilege of bringing in some exceptional vintage guitars recently, and this ‘player’s grade’ 1969 Stratocaster is no exception.
It features the large headstock and bold CBS-era decal which are a notable characteristic of Fenders from this period and has certainly seen a few modifications since it left the factory some 55 years ago, most notably to the body, which has been stripped back to a natural finish. We believe this to have occurred not long after the guitar was originally acquired, due to some distinctive wear situated around where the player’s arm would have sat, and inside the right cutaway. The hints of amber inside the tremolo cavity strongly suggest that it was originally finished in a 3-tone sunburst.
The hardware, pots and trio of grey bottom pickups are all original, however the black pickguard is an aftermarket replacement that compliments the natural appearance nicely.
The guitar also recently saw a refret with 6105 fret wire, which greatly benefits its playability. It feels beautifully broken in and sounds great in all pickup positions, but especially in the neck, which sounds very throaty and full!
The guitar currently does not come with a hard case, however we are looking to source a replacement given its price and collector’s value.
