Fender American Original '50s Stratocaster, White Blonde, Left Handed Overview

The story of Fender's most famous and best selling instrument is one of evolution, expert design, skilled craftmanship, idiosyncratic personalities, and highly talented artists. This is the guitar that has been involved in virtually every major musical shift, event, and milestone since its introduction in 1954, and with this incredible legacy in mind, Fender's American Original '50s Stratocaster has been designed to compliment authenticity with modern playability. The best of both worlds? We certainly think so.

Fans of the Strat's first years won't be disappointed; every curve and line of the body and neck are accurate to the historic originals, while the period correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish not only lets the body breathe with its true tonal character, but also allows for uniquely personal age and wear. The thick “Soft V”-shaped neck slightly smooths the sharpness of a “V” profile, which when combined with the modern 9.5” radius fingerboard and Vintage-tall frets, provides a comfortable feel that's ideal for rhythm, lead, and general all-round guitar playing.

Specially voiced to produce authentic Fender tone, the Pure Vintage ‘59 Pickups will tug the heart strings of even the most uncompromising vintage Strat aficionado, while the vintage spec hardware which adorns the guitar from headstock to jack socket, makes for a guitar that not only looks the part, but also plays in a way that renders it impossible to put down.

  • The American Original ‘50s Stratocaster is the best way to experience the performance, style and tone that made Fender a household name among guitarists.

    What Fender say:

Rather than focussing on specific model years, the American Originals have cherry picked a number of features from across a certain decade and combined this with modern features such as a 9.5" Radius on the Fretboard, and 6105 style Tall Vintage frets for a lower action that won't fret-out on bends.

This Vintage Modern approach combines classic old school features like thin skin Nitrocellulose Lacquer and meticulously reproduced period correct pickups with some modern electronics and neck profiles.

When Fender released the Stratocaster in 1954, they didn’t set out to create a classic-but they did. The Stratocaster’s sleek style, articulate sound and plethora of innovations redefined electric guitar and opened up a brave new world of musical possibilities. The American Original ‘50s Stratocaster maintains Fender’s legendary original-era style and ground-breaking tone, while adding modern feel and pickup switching.

The wax-potted Pure Vintage ‘59 single-coil Stratocaster pickups are as period-correct as possible, from the Formvar-coated coil wire to the cloth-covered output wires, fiber bobbins and alnico 5 magnets. The thick “Soft V” neck profile is perfect for chording, while the 9.5”-radius fingerboard enhances playability. Other authentic touches include vintage-tall frets, original-era body radii, vintage-style hardware-including a six- point synchronized tremolo bridge-vintage-style hardshell case and a lacquer finish that not only lets the wood “breathe” naturally, it also ages in a distinctively appealing way.

I love this guitar. We left-handers don't get much chance to be picky and buying without playing can be a gamble, but I definitely feel like I've hit the jackpot with this one. The tone is everything I hoped - perfect vintage strat. And it feels lovely to play: it's significantly lighter than any of my other strats (7.1lbs), and the chunky neck is so comfortable to play. Beautiful quality and finish, too: no blemishes, lovely translucent white nitro with the ash grain showing through; and set up perfectly out of the case - intonation, saddle and nut heights, even fret height, no buzzing anywhere, incredibly comfortable rolled edges on smooth fret ends on the fret board. The tweed G&G case is a luxurious bonus. I'd sleep in it if I could.
