Fender American Original '60s Jaguar 3-Colour Sunburst Overview

Released in 1962 as a feature-rich, top-of-the-line electric guitar, the short-scale Jaguar, like is bigger sibling the Jazzmaster, has inspired the heroes of the musical underground; the American Original ‘60s Jaguar recreates the lithe sound, feline good looks, and slinky playability of those original models whilst adding tweaks to provide a modern feel. The best of both worlds? We certainly think so.

Fans of the Jaguar's initial run won't be disappointed; every curve and line of the super comfortable body and neck are accurate to the historic originals, while the period correct nitro finish not only lets the Alder body breathe with its true tonal character, but also allows for uniquely personal age and wear. This Jaguar features a remarkably comfortable and versatile 1960s' “C”-shaped neck profile, which when combined with Vintage-tall frets, and a 9.5” radius fingerboard, provides a classically comfortable, but modern feel.

Specifically voiced to produce authentic Jaguar tones, the Pure Vintage ‘62 Pickups sparkle, purr, and roar in the unique Jaguar fashion, and the vintage spec hardware which adorns the guitar from headstock to jack socket, makes for an instrument that not only looks the part, but also plays in a way that renders it impossible to put down.

    What Fender say:

Rather than focussing on specific model years, the American Originals have cherry picked a number of features from across a certain decade and combined this with modern features such as a 9.5" Radius on the Fretboard, and 6105 style Tall Vintage frets for a lower action that won't fret-out on bends. This Vintage Modern approach combines classic old school features like thin skin Nitrocellulose Lacquer and meticulously reproduced period correct pickups with some modern electronics and neck profiles.

Never resting in our mission to make life better for musicians, Fender created the short-scale Jaguar guitar in 1962. Originally released as our feature- rich, top-of-the-line electric guitar, it inspired the heroes of the musical underground and hit its stride with surf, punk and alternative guitarists. The American Original ‘60s Jaguar brings that supple sound and slinky playability to life again, slightly tweaked for a modern feel.

The wax-potted Pure Vintage ’60s Jaguar single- coil pickups are as period-correct as possible, from the enamel-coated coil wire to the cloth- covered output wires, fiber bobbins and alnico 5 magnets. We kept the Jaguar’s unique circuitry intact for this incarnation; the familiar lead/ rhythm circuits are there, along with the bass-cut “strangle” switch. Other authentic touches include vintage-tall frets, original-era body radii, vintage- style hardware—including floating tremolo with lock button and push-in arm—vintage-style hardshell case and a lacquer finish that not only lets the wood “breathe” naturally with resonant tone, it also wears in a distinctively appealing way.
