There was an intermittent fault with the pickup but I have returned it and hope to have it replaced with a fully functioning model soon.

The pickup is good and works well. No problems there. I play with my fingers and a pick on my thumb, and slap the strings. The location of the pickup is where I hammer my thumb-pick into the strings. So I get some physical interference. If I move my hand back I can't damp the strings with my palm to get that nice thud sound on the bass strings. If I move forward the sound looses it's edge. So it's a great pickup but I'm going to have to do a bit a engineering to get it in a better place. If you play with a plectrum it would work just great.
