Quality finish, smooth frets & easy action. Tuned up and I was away with that distinctive Gretsch sound. It's holding it's tune well. Worth shopping around for best price. For a shade over 400 quid I got a bargain.

I am used to playing a Fender Strat., and have never played a Gretsch. The guitar is very well made and finished and I was impressed by the high standard. There are a couple of things that are different to a Strat. The Bigsby tremolo is made so that the arm will not travel further than about parallel with the strings, so playing whilst holding the arm (as I often do with the Stratocaster) is not possible. The fretboard inlays are small and on the edge of the fretboard and do not contrast with the colour of the fretboard so they are difficult to easily identify. There are no inlays or edge markings above the 17th fret. As an amateur player I am finding it very difficult to remember where exactly where on the keyboard I am, perhaps not a problem with a professional player, but I don't like it. As other reveiwers have mentioned it does not stay in tune as well as other guitars and the Bigsby seems to be the culprit, although, having lubricated the nut and string path at the bridge, this seems to be somewhat better. There is a volume control for each of the pickups but so far I have not found these to be very useful so leave them both at maximum. The pickup switch selector is somewhat stiff and can even nip fingers if you are not careful! The fingering action on the fretboard is excellent and the pickups output give a very pleasing strong, clear sound. The tone control (which controls both pickups) also works well and with less volume change than the Strat. Upon receipt the guitar was well set up. After tuning, the string height and intonation were spot on and it was nicely packaged. Overall a lovely guitar with good finger action and tone but a couple of drawbacks for some players
