Four Amps In One

The Nextone Guitar Combo has 4 analogue Class A/B power amp circuits, driven by a Class A/B power amp, which you would find in the most efficient valve amplifiers. Essentially this means each Nextone amp has four completely different and unique sounding amps in one box:

  • 6V6 — Found at the heart of many legendary low-wattage American amps, the 6V6 output tube is known for its distinctively sweet, crisp tone and organic compression.
  • 6L6 — Used in classic American stage amps and some modern high-gain designs, the 6L6 output tube delivers a high-headroom punch with a round and full midrange character.
  • EL84 — Famous as the power tube in British combo amps introduced in the late '50s and early '60s, the EL84 produces glassy, clean chime at lower volumes and rich, creamy distortion when cranked.
  • EL34 — The power tube found in the iconic British stack amps, the EL34 is loved for its warm, fat tone and unmistakable rock crunch.

You can select between these 4 legendary American/British valve types, selecting one to be your clean and the other to be your crunch/lead tone. Each of the 4 models gives the same dynamic response and signature tone that the power amps are famous for.

Imagine having the clean sound of your dream American Combo and the roaring lead/high gain tone of an iconic British Stack. This is a pipedream to most guitarists, but Nextone makes it a reality.

Real-Deal Tone with Tube Logic

The sound engine within Nextone is Boss’ legendary technology, TubeLogic. TubeLoic has meticulously modelled and replicated every component of the amp from jack to speaker. When you select a specific amp type, everything from the gain circuit, to the EQ and effects sections will react exactly as the physical amp would.

TubeLogic encourages you to play expressively and dynamically in perfect harmony with the chosen amp type. Your Nextone will then behave just like a traditional valve amp, softening/cleaning up as you play quietly or breaking up the more you attack/dig in. It even reacts differently when switching the guitar you are using with a Nextone, meaning each of your guitars maintain their own voice and individual character. Not only that, if you are playing at bedroom volume, you can reduce the total power of the amp to just 0.5 of a watt, meaning you can still experience the tone of a dimed amp, at a reasonable volume.

With variable power control available on each Nextone, you can always stay in the sweet spot of your tone, from playing at home to performing on stages of every size. No matter the volume you are playing at, Nextone gives you the perfect tone, all the time.

If you are someone who makes no compromises with your guitar tone, partner your Nextone amp with the Boss Premium Cables, which are crafted with the finest materials and carefully engineered for superior tone.

Custom-Tuned Cabinet and Speaker

The speaker in each Nextone has been specifically designed to partner and interact with the 4 different Class A/B power amp circuits perfectly, meaning it will project the full tonal capabilities of each amp. The top-of-the-line Nextone Special features the premium Waza B12W speaker for the ultimate sonic experience.

The Waza B12W is based on the legendary alnico “bluebell” speakers from the 1960s. This vintage speaker has been lusted after for its rich lows, sweet mids, and clear highs. The Waza B12W covers a broad sound spectrum maximizing the versatility provided with the four selectable power stages. Boss have not only replicated the voice of the Alnico Blue Bell speaker, with Waza B12W, you now get both the iconic wide tonal range and modern power handling capacity.

If you already have your favourite speaker setup, simply unplug the speaker from the back of the amp and connect the Nextone via a Speaker cable to your cabinet (single 8ohm or dual 16ohm).

Having the perfect speaker cone isn’t enough to achieve the perfect guitar tone. Ongoing to the immense detail Boss has gone to with Nextone, even the cabinet of the combos themselves have been carefully tuned for optimum projection and feel. When partnering the power amp, custom speaker and cabinet build, each has been designed to ensure the ideal interaction between all sound elements.

Personalise Your Sound

Every amp in the Boss Nextone range offers deep customisation options that you would typically have to pay a highly-trained amp tech to achieve with a high-end tube amp. Nextone Artist and Stage models allow you to save one custom clean/lead channel setup to the amp, whilst three Tone Setting memories are available with the Nextone Special.

In addition to the onboard controls, you can also use the dedicated free to use Nextone Editor software, which opens up a whole new world of options for your Nextone. You can customise how the amp reacts at the preamp stage, the power amp stage, adjust sag and bias, assign effects and fine-tune the amp with a versatile EQ. The Nextone Editor makes you the amp engineer, personalising your Nextone to respond, sound and feel like your own custom amplifier.

Nextone Amps have a dedicated input for the optional GA-FC footswitch for hands-free control.

Practical Features for The Modern Guitarist

Every guitar player lusts over the iconic tone and feel that a vintage valve amp gives you, however they come with a hoard of headaches that make them impractical for the modern Guitar World. They’re heavy, require regular maintenance and their sound degrades with tube wear, AC line conditions, and more. With a Nextone amp, you get the same authentic tube tone, without the downsides and a host of essential modern tools.

As well as a dramatic reduction in weight than a typical valve amp, the tone is solid and consistent wherever you play, and you can take comfort in knowing a tube won’t fail in the middle of a performance.

Performance reliability is one thing, but Nextone amps also feature modern connectivity, ensuring it slots seamlessly into your studio or live rig. Via USB, the Nextone becomes it’s own Audio Interface, meaning you can record the sound of your amp directly to your chosen DAW without having to own expensive microphones, preamps, messy cables, stands or a room that allows you to crank the amp. With just a USB Cable (sold separately) you can record your dream amp tone instantly and in silence. to help make the amp record more authentically, each Nextone has a Rec Out (which has cab simulation meaning you don’t need a mic), a Line Out for connecting to PA and an effects loop, whilst Nextone Special supports MIDI.

The headphones/recording output also allows for silent practise and tracking sessions and the USB is also used to communicate with the Nextone Editor.

Here’s What Boss Say:
“The Nextone is our most realistic and “tube sounding” amplifier range. It has the 4 most wellknown and classic amplier sounds built in, and the modern input/output connectivity that a guitar play would require. This is the amp for those that are sick of the unreliablity and weight of a valve amp, but do not want to sacrifice the tube amp feel. The Nextone is our most traditional sounding amp, plus you can even be your own Amp Tech when using the amazing Boss Tone Studio.
