Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Hummingbird, Aged Cherry Sunburst Overview

The Gibson Hummingbird could be the most immediately-identifiable acoustic guitar ever made. The Hummingbird is an iconic guitar, lusted after by guitar players across the world. Its popularity has been validated by sitting on the bellies of some of the biggest artist’s in the world. It’s the apotheosis of washed out early 70s slacker-cool, Keith Richards in his Exile On Main Street period - headbands, ripped denim and all!

Epiphone are renowned for making high-quality instruments at an affordable price tag. Despite a few downgrades here-and-there from their Gibson counterparts, the Inspired By Gibson Hummingbird is a fantastic option for those looking for a guitar at a more modest price tag.

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Hummingbird is constructed with a solid Sitka Spruce top and Solid Mahogany Back and Sides. Sitka spruce is the most common spruce wood in use today. Sitka spruce is good for volume and will age nicely over the first four or five years of the guitar’s life, improving with time. Mahogany is the undersung hero of tonewoods. Always cheaper than rosewood, this may have led some to consider it lesser than rosewood. Nowadays there is little difference in price and it is becoming more prized due to there being more issues around obtaining all woods. Tonally mahogany is sweet-sounding in the midrange, like its cousin Sapele, and naturally compresses whether you play chords or single notes. A nice byproduct of this is that it seems to mesh really well with other instruments rather than challenge them. While a guitar gets a certain amount of volume and sustain from its solid top, a solid back and sides will impart a great deal of character to a guitar.

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Hummingbird has a Short Scale Length, measuring at 24.724". Short scale lengths cause the strings to be held under a lower tension at concert pitch, which means slightly less volume but the strings are more forgiving. The fundamental note rings very clearly with fewer overtones.

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Hummingbird is fitted with a bone nut and saddle, which offers a better sound and is far more durable than a plastic-made one, gold Epiphone Deluxe tuners, top and back multi-ply binding, a Kalamazoo style headstock and a Fishman Sonicore under-saddle pickup and Sonitone preamp.

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Hummingbird is available in Aged Antique Natural Gloss and Aged Heritage Cherry Sunburst Gloss and there is even a 12-string version.

An optional hardshell case is sold separately, which is the Epiphone Case for Dreadnought.
