Ibanez XPTB720-BKF Iron Label, Black Flat

Overview by GAK

The 7-string Ibanez XPT720-BKF is a member of the limited-edition Iron Label series of high-performance, metal focussed guitars. The XPTB720-BKF marks the re-introduction of the Xiphos body shape, an Ibanez fan favourite that’s been highly requested. The XPTB720-BKF sports Iron Label signature features such as the sleek Black Flat finish as well as updated ones like an Okoume body, earth-shattering DiMarzio D-Activator 7 humbuckers and a lightning-fast Wizard II-7 neck.

Powerful Tone

Laying the potent tonal foundation for the Ibanez XPTB720 is the Okoume body. Tonally, Okoume is similar to Mahogany, with the strong mid-range response and punchiness that you’d expect, and is more sustainable to boot.

Enhancing the Ibanez XPTB720’s natural voice is a pair of powerful DiMarzio D-Activator 7 humbuckers. These passive pickups embody the most desirable elements of an active design - without any of the drawbacks such as batteries and limited dynamic range. Plus, the neck and bridge’s output has been precisely dialled in so there’s no volume drop when you switch between them.

These pickups are primed to take on all the distortion you can throw at them and retain a clean, open sound with impressive note separation at high gain settings.

Lightning Fast Playability

A key part of the Ibanez XPTB720’s effortless playability is the Wizard II-7 5pc Maple/Walnut neck. This ultra-fast neck boasts a thin and flat profile and a 25.5" scale length that’s perfect for intricate solos and crushing down-tuned riffs. An advantage of this neck is its sturdiness and stability, which means it can withstand temperature shifts with ease.

The Maple & Walnut is adorned with a lush Ebony fretboard and 24 Jumbo frets. Ebony is the fingerboard wood of choice for the high-end Iron Label guitars, as its toughness, crisp high-end and fast response make it ideal for heavier genres. The Jumbo frets can give you an edge when performing technically demanding music due to the super-smooth playing feel that they provide.

If you don’t require the extended range offered by the Ibanez XPTB720-BKF, a streamlined 6-string alternative is available in the XPTB620-BKF.

Premium Hardware

When you’re in the midst of intense performance, you can count on the Ibanez XPTB720 to deliver rock-solid tuning stability and spot-on intonation. This is catered for by the fantastic hardware, which includes locking tuners, renowned Gotoh machine heads (with their precise action and minimal back lush) and Ibanez’s own Edge-Zero tremolo bridge (which features a comfortable low profile and a useful stud lock function).

With the Ibanez XPTB720, after you’ve executed your deep dive bombs & wild pitch bends, you can expect it to return to accurate pitch!

Not only are you receiving an incredible metal axe, you also receive a sturdy gig bag that’s made from robust materials. It’s a great way to safely transport your XPTB720 to your next recording session or live performance.

If you’re after a premium metal axe with a sleek aesthetic, slick playability and a bone-rattling tone, the Ibanez XPTB720-BKF is highly recommended.
