Yamaha has a long and illustrious history producing some of the most important synthesizer instruments in history. Their CS range of analogue synthesisers is legendary. Most notably the iconic Yamaha CS-80 has become one of the most sought-after synthesizers of all time. Its place in synth legend was cemented when it became the backbone of the sound of Vangelis's seminal score to the legendary Ridley Scott movie Blade Runner, and more recently its sequel. Not content with that, Yamaha single-handedly changed the face and sound of synthesis with their revolutionary DX range of synths. Utilising digital technology to create its distinctive sound based around FM (Frequency Modulation) synthesis, the DX range was nothing like anything anyone had ever seen or heard before. Today, Yamaha still produce a wide range of incredible synths, from their diminutive, accessible, user-friendly REFACE range, which redux's some of Yamaha's finest keyboard moments, the incredibly flexible and affordable MX-49, all the way up to the truly mighty MONTAGE range, in our opinion one of the most exciting modern synthesisers available on the market.
