EMG DG20 David Gilmour Loaded Pickguard Pickup Set, White Overview
David Gilmour is known worldwide for his unique sound with Pink Floyd and his solo work. This signature EMG Pro Series system, the DG20, features white Alnico loaded SA single coil pickups, an EXG Guitar Expander for increased treble and bass frequencies, and an SPC presence control to enhance your Strat’s earthiness and mid-range. The system comes prewired on a custom 11-hole white pickguard with white knobs for easy installation.
EMG SA Pickups - The EMG SA pickup is equipped with an Alnico V bar magnet and functions as an active single coil. This configuration provides a vintage Strat single coil sound that is characterized by a bright, airy quality with a full, rich bottom end. With internal shielding and a low impedance preamp, the EMG SA operates almost noiselessly while delivering a higher output level that preserves the full tonal quality through your amplifier. Thanks to the Alnico V bar magnet, the EMG SA can maintain output balance even during string bends, offering unmatched playability and reliability. The EMG SA produces a creamy mid-range warmth and sublime blues tones that are clear, strong, and expressive, and it allows you to dial in anything from classic, clean sounds to rowdy, raunchy ones.
SPC “Strat Prescence Control” - The SPC, or “Strat Presence Control,” is commonly referred to as the “fat control” because of its ability to produce a fuller, thicker sound. Originally designed to enable guitarists to enhance the midrange of their single-coil pickups to replicate the sound of a humbucker, the SPC achieves this effect by increasing the gain across a broad mid-band frequency range while simultaneously reducing the highs. This results in a louder, weightier sound from any single-coil pickup, and when used with a humbucker, it increases both volume and midrange, delivering a particularly robust sound that’s ideal for slide guitar playing.
EXG Guitar Expander - If you’re seeking unparalleled versatility in tone control, the EXG Guitar Expander is an exceptional choice. The EXG has a frequency response that mimics a standard guitar amp equalization, boosting the lows and highs while reducing the midrange as you turn the knob up. The outcome is a rich, full-bodied sound that avoids becoming muddied, allowing your guitar to remain distinct and prominent in the mix. This effect is particularly effective with single coils, P90s, and humbuckers, providing each with a unique frequency response and a range of tonal possibilities.
