Have you got yourself a budding guitarist? Here's a full list of everything you'll need for a beginner guitarist.
It all starts with the iconic six-string instrument, and we stock various guitar brands, including Fender, Gibson, Squier, Epiphone, PRS, and Jackson, that are great for beginners embarking on their guitar journey. Don’t fret if you need a helping hand in choosing the right guitar, pop into our Brighton store, or contact us online or over the phone to speak to our expert team.
What do I need to start learning the guitar?
- Acoustic or electric guitar
- Clip-on or pedal tuner
- Plectrums or picks (it's worth having a variety of gauges)
- Comfortable strap (if you want to play standing up or perform)
- Amplifier and instrument cable (if you're learning the electric guitar)
- Headphones (for practising the electric guitar quietly)
- Guitar stand (you'll be encouraged to practice if your guitar is proudly on display)
- Spare set of strings (we recommend 9-10 gauge for electric guitar and 10-11 gauge for an acoustic guitar)
- Tools for changing strings and guitar maintenance (a set of Allen keys, wire cutters, screwdrivers and a string winder)
Squier is a subsidiary brand of Fender that offers the same great quality as its parent company at a more affordable price point. Whether you’re a beginner just starting out or a seasoned pro looking for a backup guitar, Squier has something for every guitarist and bassist.
Gibson is one of the all-time most revered, prestigious and popular guitar manufacturers. Gibson guitars such as the Les Paul, SG, ES-335, Explorer, Flying V and Firebird are true icons that are firmly etched into the fabric of music history.
Martin have been at the forefront of acoustic guitar innovation, combining tradition with cutting-edge designs to produce world-class instruments. As the creator of the iconic dreadnought guitar, Martin has become synonymous with exceptional quality and performance, trusted by iconic musicians such as Neil Young, Willie Nelson, Jason Isbell and Ed Sheeran.
