Yamaha THR10II Wireless Desktop Amplifier Overview

The Yamaha THR10II Wireless Desktop Amplifier is packed with everything the modern guitarist might need for rehearsing and works as a great ‘third amp’ - designed for musicians who want to practice at home, rather than it just being a smaller version of a large amp. It has 15 guitar amp and 3 bass amp emulations, each of which you can choose Modern, Boutique, and Classic modes, mic models for electric-acoustics, and flat modes, so you can play in any genre. You can switch between the five built-in presets including clean, hi-gain, and crunch. It also has effects such as flanger, chorus, phaser, tremolo, echo, reverse, and reverb. The rechargeable battery and built-in Line 6 Relay wireless receiver mean it is truly portable, great for travelling musicians who don’t want cables in the way.

Bluetooth supports stereo audio playback through the amp, and allows you to edit from your phone using the THR Remote app. Turn your amp into a USB audio interface and record straight into your preferred DAW, and listen back through the headphone output.

There’s also the Yamaha THR10II Desktop Amplifier which is the wired version of this amp, or for more power, there’s the Yamaha THR30II Wireless Desktop Amplifier, which has 30 watts and wireless capabilities.

THR-II Series

Yamaha THR30II Wireless Desktop Amplifier has 30 watts in total, a Line 6 Relay wireless receiver, Bluetooth, rechargeable battery, a line out for recording.

There’s also 20-watt versions in this range - Yamaha THR10II Desktop Amplifier, which is the more conventional wired version, and the Yamaha THR10II Wireless Desktop Amplifier, the wireless version, which also has a rechargeable battery.

THR Series

The amps featured here have 10 watts, with options designed for acoustic guitarists and electric guitarists.

The Yamaha THR5 Modelling Guitar Amp is the little brother of the THR10, with the same great quality but in a more portable form. The THR5 has a few different electric guitar channels, offering five realistic, built-in amp sounds and a USB interface.

The Yamaha THR5A Acoustic Guitar Amp is optimised to work with electric-acoustic guitars, with realistic microphone modelling, and built-in effects that are used for acoustic guitars.

Overview by Yamaha

The Third Amp
Guitarists are familiar with the tube amp stacks that sound amazing when turned up loud on a big stage, and with combo amps that are a perfect fit for smaller venues and rehearsal. THR ignored the convention that a practice amp should simply be a smaller version of a larger amplifier, creating a new “third amp” category designed around what players need when they’re playing at home.

Fully Wireless Experience
All THR-II models feature Bluetooth connectivity for audio playback, the “THR Remote” mobile editor app, and third-party footswitch support.

THR10II Wireless and THR30II Wireless also feature a built-in rechargeable battery and Line 6 wireless receiver. Just grab your THR, your guitar, and a Line 6 Relay G10T transmitter (sold separately), and play anywhere your music takes you.

Great sound. Wireless is handy when you need to move it about too.

Was torn between this and a Spark, but ended up with the THR. This was more expensive, but has brilliant tones. Out the box I was super impressed with the clean and crunch tones, the EQ is really responsive too. The app feature of cab sims is fantastic, tons of options of various 4x12 cabs which gives plenty of sonic variations. The FX options are not the same as the Spark or Katana, but sufficient for my needs: chorus/flanger/phaser/delay/verb/trem, it only some drive options otherwise it'd be perfect. The app is brilliant, easy to use and a nice UI on a small tablet.

Excellent piece of kit - for those like me living at close quarters with others, I'd even go so far as to say essential. Eight basic amp sounds (five for electric guitar, plus acoustic, bass and 'flat' response amps), each with three variants accessible via the accompanying amp, and a raft of effects. It's obviously portable and wireless-equipped - handy when I get chucked out of the living room - and serves as a pretty decent bluetooth speaker in its own right. My only quibble is that there are only five storable presets - even a simple punk rocker like myself could have used a few more when the amp has so many sounds to offer! That said, this is a proper game changer for anyone who needs quality tone at domestic volume.
